the safe place

Collaboration with Lou. Material : wood, water, tarpaulin, water pump, plastic pipe. Size : 130 x 60 x 60 cm.

A house should be a home, a safe place where we experience security and quietness. But what if the house gets open to the outside ? It becomes a place of insecurity, abandoned, destroyed by time and nature. We want to make people feel this insecurity, when the house is not a place that you can trust anymore.

We worked with Lou on this project. It has been very interesting for me. I learned that for such a building you have to plan everything carefully. Once you’ve started to build you can’t improvise or suddenly change your idea. We wanted to start very big and be close to the figure of a house, but we had to drastically simplify to create a symbolism of the house. It made me realize that often I make things too obvious in my creation because I’m afraid that people won’t understand. I learned that you have to make a lot of concessions to the material. It’s a cooperation between you and the material. I also discovered the ‘water pump universe’ and had to learn everything we needed about it. Combining two strong elements (wood and water) asked us to master these both, to understand how they work separately and together. d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_24_51.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_25_14.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_25_26.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_25_39.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_25_57.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_26_10.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_26_23.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_26_37.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_26_53.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_27_12.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_27_24.png d’écran 2020-12-30 à 20_27_35.png
